About the project
New Neighbors is an anthology series following the tales of ordinary immigrants living in New York City. The project aims to broaden the understanding of what it means to be an immigrant through stories told by the people themselves that explore identity, culture, and the common threads amongst immigrants.
New Neighbors’ beating heart is the story told by its guests. Each immigrant is interviewed at their place of choice in the city - their favorite cafe, park, street, or home - and is given as much time as they need to tell their story.
A message from Jose
Hey friends,
Thanks for visiting New Neighbors. My name is Jose, and I'm a multidisciplinary artist from Venezuela living in New York City. I came to New York in 2014.
I am curious to know how the stories of immigrants are like mine: what they have left behind, what they have accomplished, and who they have met so far in their journey through New York City. My intention is to tell these stories, staying true to each individual’s narrative while capturing their essence through portraits.
Come join me in getting to know these people - our New Neighbors.
